Pot Holes Swimming Area Just like the lemon squeezers, there are a few different natural swimming areas around Grand Junction known as the potholes . We know of at least three different places within 30 miles of Grand Junction that are all known by this name. They are all great swimming areas that are all naturally made of sandstone carved out over thousands of years. For this blog post, we will start off with probably the most famous (and dangerous) potholes jumping area on top of the Colorado National Monument approx. 10 miles west of Glade Park Grocery Store. Almost like clockwork, the potholes outside Glade Park make the Daily Newspaper every year, but not for the reasons you might imagine. On average, at least one person gets killed up here every year. Last year two people lost their lives. Please use Extreme Caution if you decide to go cliff jumping at the Pot Holes. PLEASE do not bring any glass bottles and "DO NOT JUMP" in the springtime run-off when wat

Grand Junction Camping Campgrounds in Grand Junction, Colorado Campgrounds In Grand Junction, Colorado Camping in and around Grand Junction, Co. has several places to choose from, that is if you know where to look . There is two State Parks on each end of the Grand Valley that both offer camping, along with miles and miles of BLM Land which you can also camp in most areas. For the more adventourous that doesn't mind diving a few extra miles, the Grand Mesa to the East of Grand Junction and up on Top the Colorado National Monument to the South, both offer additional camp sites and spectacular views of Grand Junction and the surrounding area. State Parks near Grand Junction Island Acres is the first State Park located just East of Pallisade, Co. along the Colorado River at mile marker #47. They have full R.V. electic hook-ups as we'll as several tent camping sites. What makes Island Acres so unique is the fact it really is on an Island from a long time ago.

Unaweep Canyon

Unaweep Canyon near Grand Junction, CO. Unaweep Canyon starts just a few miles from Grand Junction and travels up 44 miles of breathe taking views on the way to Gateway, Colorado filled with plenty of Outdoor Activities along the way. The term "Unaweep" means two outlets . One canyon that water flows in both the East and West directions. This is a natural phenomenon that can not be explained even today. Some evidence suggests that Unaweep Canyon is where the Gunnison River once flowed. View Larger Map Directions to Unaweep Canyon: From junction 32 road and Hwy. 50 on the South East side of Grand Junction head South towards Delta, Colorado. Go 1.5 miles to Clear water,Co. and turn right on Hwy.141. To make sure you find exactly the location your looking for you might want to set you odometer at this point as we'll as pay attention of the mile markers on the left hand side of the road. Bullet Hole Bouldering Area

Grand Junction Climbing Grand Junction is surrounded rock climbing and bouldering sites. Perhaps the best place to go bouldering right in town is the "Bullet Hole Climbing Area" right in town. (See interactive map below). Looking at the photo below, you can see this boulder has been shot at many times in the past making a rather unique and challenging climb. The days of shooting more bullets to make new routes are long gone, but there is plenty of established routes to climb. There is also 4 or 5 permanent anchors on top the boulder to help belay you with ropes to the top. Another good place to go climbing near the bullet hole rock is a few hundred yards to the East. If you zoom out on the map below, just follow that trail down to whats referred to as the " Dynamite Shack " climbing area. the shacks were used to store dynamite during the construction of the Colorado National Monument road.
